Subjects in IIT JAM : Biological Sciences (BL), Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH).

Till last year, JAM was conducted for seven subjects. But from this year onwards, IIT JAM will be held for six subjects. The six subjects for which IIT JAM 2020 is being conducted are Biotechnology (BL), Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH). Candidates can go through all the subjects and topics covered under IIT JAM syllabus for all six test papers for which the exam is being conducted.

There are seven objective-type test papers in IIT JAM: Chemistry (CY), Physics (PH), Mathematics (MA), Geology (GG), Biological Sciences (BL), Mathematical Statistics (MS), Biotechnology (BT).

IIT JAM 2020 Exam will be held for all the seven papers in computer-based mode. The questions will be displayed in a random sequence on the computer screen. Duration of all the papers will be 3 hours each. The entire paper will be divided into three sections in which Section A will contain 30 questions, Section B will contain 10 Questions and Section C will contain 20 questions. There are seven objective-type test papers in IIT JAM: Chemistry (CY), Physics (PH), Mathematics (MA), Geology (GG), Biological Sciences (BL), Mathematical Statistics (MS), Biotechnology (BT).

Biological Sciences (BL): General Biology, Basics of Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Cell Biology and Immunology, Mathematical Sciences. Biotechnology (BT): The Biotechnology test paper comprises of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. The syllabus will be of graduation level. Chemistry (CY): Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry. Geology (GG): The Planet Earth, Geomorphology, Structural Geology, Palaeontology, Stratigraphy, Mineralogy, Petrology, Economic Geology, Applied Geology.
